18 Easy Ways To Keep Your Bedroom Clean Even Lazy Girls Will Appreciate
Friday, May 27, 2016 by Jessica Booth
I wouldn’t call myself a super lazy person. Don’t get me wrong, I love to have days where I do nothing, and my procrastination habit is bad, but I generally like to be doing things. But I’ll freely admit this: one thing I’m really incredibly lazy about is cleaning, especially cleaning my room . I am not a neat person. I know where my things are, but I am not organized in a traditional way. I can go months – literally months – without cleaning my room. My bedroom is embarrassingly messy 95 percent of the time, because I often find that I have no energy to keep it neat and tidy. But I am moving out of my house soon (SOBBING), and I am determined to become a more organized person in my new place. So, yes, these tips on how to keep your bedroom clean are also for me.
No matter how lazy you are, no matter how much you hate cleaning, and no matter how busy you are, you can follow at least half of these tips to keep your bedroom from becoming, as my mother would say, a disgusting pigsty. It’s not that these require no effort at all – most of these tips are preventative measures, meaning you’ll have to spend a few hours putting things in place in order for them to work – but they do make it so that you don’t have to go on a four hour cleaning spree every few weeks. These tips also aren’t going to make your bedroom the cleanest place in the world, but they will keep it from getting out of hand.
I know that we’d all love to extend the time in between bedroom cleaning days and also get our parents off our back at the same time. Take a look at these easy ways to keep your room clean , and find the ones that make the most sense to you to try out. They just might change your life!
1. Keep your drawers organized.

Cluttered drawers quickly equal messy rooms because you have to rummage through them and you end up taking things out and then not putting them back in. Keeping your drawers organized is a first step towards keeping your room organized! You can buy drawer organizers from any home goods store, or you can make your own using small containers or even pieces of cardboard.

If you’re anything like me, your messy room is mostly comprised of dirty clothes on the floor. Prevent that by keeping a hamper in reach. Throw your dirty clothes in there, then take it to the laundry room once or twice a week. So much more simple!

Just like smaller things in drawers, clothes should be organized too. Folding and stacking looks neat until you have to find something specific. Make your own for any clothing item to keep things in their place.

A lot of us leave small items out so we don’t lose them, or just because they’re small enough that they don’t have a home. But really, they should be stored somewhere to keep them organized. Repurpose old jars and glass containers to keep everything neat.

If your closet is overflowing after you clean, you’re doing it wrong. If there’s no room in there for one more thing, then how will you put clothes away when you’re in a rush? You won’t, and then your room gets messy. Leave a little room in there so you can put other items away when needed.

This is really the first step towards becoming more organized. If items have a home, you’re more likely to put them back there. If you just put things on dresser tops or spare drawers, everything gets messy and cluttered fast. Instead, use bins and jars and drawers and shelves to get everything a proper place.

If you have a lot of clothes, you probably can’t fit all of them in your room neatly (I can’t). There’s no reason to have winter clothes in your closet in the middle of the summer. Buy some cheap large bins and fill them with off season clothes, then store them somewhere else. These are obviously labeled for baby clothes, but you can label them however you want. This cuts down on clutter, leaving your room less likely to get destroyed.

In a perfect world, we would all have time to make our beds in the morning. This is not a perfect world. Instead, just trick yourself and others by simply pulling your comforter up under your pillows. This makes your bed look neat, which in turns makes you less likely to pile it with stuff.

One of the reasons my bedroom is so messy is because I have way too much stuff. Too many small things are kept on my nightstands or on top of my dressers. These look nice when I clean them, but very quickly become cluttered and a huge disaster area. Avoid this by keeping minimal items on top of surfaces. You should also keep those items on the larger size so they don’t look as messy. The above photo is a great example.

Having loads of jewelry is nice, but it also makes a big mess so fast. Piles of jewelry get tangled and look bad, and they fall all over the place. Buy or make a jewelry organizer that will keep everything safe and clean.

Hooks are great for so many things: scarves, hats, long necklaces, shoes you can hang, hoodies, etc. Put a bunch of them all over your room. Hanging something rather than throwing it on the floor or a chair makes you room look much more clean.

Shoes make a big mess really fast because they’re clunky and get in the way of everything. If possible, keep your shoes out of your room entirely. If that’s not possible, buy or make a shoe organizer to keep everything in one place.

No, I don’t mean shove things under there instead of actually cleaning. Buy under the bed storage bins, or turn a shelf into under the bed storage. Put things like magazines or shoes or items you don’t use all the time under there. If it’s out of site, it can’t make a mess!

Shelves are a great way to keep your bedroom neat – as long as you don’t clutter them. Use shelves for organizers like boxes or jars, or for large books and DVDs.

In the grand scheme of things, charging cords aren’t the biggest source of clutter. But every little bit helps! Make a charging station to hold your cords and make them look neat.

This isn’t preventative, but it takes 10 seconds and should be done all the time. Throw things out as they become garbage! Don’t just put stuff on the floor and think you’ll clean it later. Do it in the moment.

Some large storage bins are great – for off season clothes and shoes and stuff. Most are just another way to create clutter. The smaller the storage container, the less messy it can get and look. Organization is key!

Yes, every once in a while you will still need to clean. If you follow the steps above, you won’t have to clean as often, but I still suggest a monthly (or every other month) deep cleaning. This will cut down on weekly cleanings!
